Christmas congestion

I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas! Did you get to spend oodles of time with family, eating yummy food and unwrapping special gifts? We sure did (OMG, my mom's prime rib was to DIE FOR)! And you know what I got for Christmas this year?

... a cold.

And my cold comes complete with a pressure headache and the ability to sound like a man.

I woke up in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve and thought, "Man! My throat is SORE!", but I figured it was just because our bedroom was really cold and I might have been sleeping with my mouth open (sexy, even when I sleep). However, by about 10 p.m. on Christmas Day, when we were safely home from our last holiday gathering, I was shooting Nyquil and recruiting Clayton to smear Vick's Vapor Rub on my chest while singing "Soft Kitty".

Being at work yesterday was miserable. We are severely short-staffed because everyone took off for the holidays (I get my vacation next week), so I got to sit at my desk with a pulsating headache and snot dripping out of my nose.

And this morning I woke up sweaty and unable to breathe, so I had to call in. I hate calling in to work! I always feel so helpless and irresponsible, like it's totally my fault that my immune system punk'd out on me.

I haven't taken my bathrobe off in almost 24 hours.

What was your favorite Christmas gift this year? As always, I was severely spoiled by both sides of my family and each gift was thoughtful and sweet.

I was beyond surprised and thrilled when I opened my very own Keurig coffee pot from my in-law's and Clayton, and my mom added to the joy by giving my a K-cup carousel and a package of apple cider. (I had never even ASKED for one these, but I guess my continuously commenting on other peoples' struck a chord with Clayton!) I'm going to be brewing so much homemade deliciousness!

I also receiving some baking items from my sister, a wine chiller from my in-law's, a FABULOUS Joseph and Joseph prep board from Mitch and Molly, some sweet owl swag from my other sister and my favorite video game EVER from Clayton.

And just look at this adorable WINE SWEATER that I received from my in-laws! Can you even imagine anything cuter? It's like my bottles of wine are little people now!

I was really excited to give gifts this year because very few people game me a super specific list of items, so I got to be creative and fun with their presents. Mitch, Molly, Clay and I decided to have a portrait done for the boys' parents because several of the pictures they have of us on display date all the way back to our high school proms! Plus, aside from wedding pictures, they don't have anything of all of us kids together.

A local photographer came highly recommended to me by a co-worker and we invited her to Mitch and Molly's house to take some portraits in front of their fireplace and Christmas tree.

Now that Christmas is over and it's no longer a surprise, I can show y'all the pictures!

We ultimately framed the large picture of our four faces, but the first one was still lovely. We decided not to print it because the way we're positioned kind of makes us look like the Ewings. All we were missing was a bear skin rug, antlers mounted on the wall, and wine in our hands.

High-fives to anyone who got the Dallas reference.

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend! If you need me, I'll be going through tissues like it's my job and popping zinc tablets.

  1. Jealous of your Keurig! I keep telling myself it's not practical, since I drink coffee by the gallon and give my Cuisinart a run for its money, but I really think I need to get myself one. Sometimes, you just need one cup of decaf on a cold night in January, not a full pot of it, ya know?! Sounds like you had a fabulous Christmas! Feel better, girlfriend!
