Courtney Confessions

I can't remember the last time I went this many week days without blogging. Remember when I was all like, "Oh, after the marathon I'm going to have so much more free time! I'm finally going to be able to do things again!"

Yeah, about that ... I was lying. I've been SO BUSY this week. I have no idea what's going on, but I don't like it.

Anyway, I thought I'd drop you guys a quick line to let you know that everything's okay, I'm here; I just haven't made the time to sit down and write anything this week. (And I call myself a writer! BAD COURTNEY!)

Honestly, I don't know where the time has gone. Ever since we set our clocks back an hour last weekend, it's been dark whenever I leave the office at the end of the day. That means that I have stopped napping cold turkey because if I lay down to sleep when it's already dark, there's no way I'm going to wake up. I'll be out for the night.

In other words, I haven't been spending my time napping. So what gives?

I'm more determined than ever to make my teaching experience a positive one (though most of the time I feel like it's killing me), so I've been spending a lot of time grading homework and preparing for lectures. I've also made it my personal mission to be super available to my students and have spent a fair amount of time responding to emails and questions. Teaching is clearly not my forte, so I'm doing my best to salvage the rest of the semester and be the best darn mediocre instructor I can!

Also, I've gotten super into preserving leaves. If that sounds weird, it should. Because it is.

So what's else has been going on this week? Well, let me tell ya by way of some Courtney Confessions ...

Clayton and I love scary movies and lately we've been really keen on classic horror flicks. When it comes to blood and gore, I tend to scare pretty easily, so watching older films with cheesy special effects is easier for me to digest. Right now we're on a Stephen King kick and have recently watched the original Carrie and Rosemary's Baby.

Consequently, after watching Rosemary's Baby, I had a nightmare that my sister woke up and discovered she was blind. Luckily I was able to fall back asleep quickly and began another dream in which Clayton and I attended a Hollywood dinner party and Oprah told me I was pretty.

Oprah shows up in my dreams a lot. If that sounds weird, it should. Because it is.

I ran for the first time since the marathon on Wednesday. I've grown so used to running slower in an effort to conserve energy that I almost flew off the back of our treadmill when I tried to run a few minutes at my old speed.

I've wasted an exorbitant amount of time playing an online version of the old 1991 Microsoft game, SkiFree. My sister and I played this game for hours when we were kids because a dog would occasionally wander onto the screen and pee in the snow and then a monster would eat you at the end (the hallmark of a solid video game, if you ask me).

I've successfully worked myself up to being able to hold a 2-minute plank, but I find that flossing my teeth every night requires far too much physical effort.

We're still in the process of organizing our spare bedrooms (surprise! surprise!). This week Clayton used a pile of my books to create a makeshift TV stand and when I realized he bent the spine of my thesaurus, my knee-jerk response was to exclaim, "HOW COULD YOU!? YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT WORDS!"

I hope your week is going well and remember: Tomorrow's Friday! Hooray!
