28th Birthday Recap

Fun facts about my birthday:

  • I was born on a Monday, and this year's birthday was on a Monday. Mondays are terrible in general, but when you get to eat cake, they're not so bad! (I ate two pieces of cake yesterday. *takes a bow*)
  • I share a birthday with Ralph Lauren, Isaac Mizrahi and Usher.
  • Ah-Ha's "Take On Me" was the number 1 song on the day I was born, a small fact that confirms everything I know about myself to be true.

As I mentioned yesterday, this year's birthday celebration was pretty low-key. After work (which was a looooong day), Clayton and I sat on the couch and watched an episode of Flip or Flop on HGTV because we found the couple flipping the property so freakin' annoying, we couldn't look away. Do you ever do that? Do you ever hate-watch TV?

Then we cleaned ourselves up (i.e. I brushed my hair) and we headed out to my birthday dinner at The Irish Lion. You may recall that we went to the Irish Lion for our last wedding anniversary, but when you love something this much, you just stick with what works. We came to the unanimous conclusion that the Irish Lion has the best ambiance (and food) in the whole city.

Just like every other time I've ever been to this restaurant, I ordered fish n' chips with a cup of Celtic stew and soda bread on the side. Clay washed down his dinner with a Guiness and I stuck to my Irish roots and ordered whiskey (I'm Czech and German, so that last statement is not at all accurate).

I think I was Irish in another life though.

And for dessert we shared an Irish Coffee. It was .... strong.

Clay and I have an unspoken rule that he has to indulge my all of annoying habits on my birthday, so that means he took a picture with me! .... And ruined it.

Or maybe it was the other way around?

So my birthday also means that when I see a cool brick building downtown and mention that my new handbag would really "pop" against it, he has to oblige.

^^This photo will be perfect for the cover of the first issue of my new magazine, My Handbag is Cuter Than Yours Digest.

After dinner, Clayton took me to the movie store so I could pick out any movie I wanted (and when I say "any movie", I mean ANY movie. I could've rented Channing Tatum Takes Off His Shirt and Dances in an Alley While Simultaneously Teaching Some Damaged Broad to Love Again, and Clay would have to watch it with me). Romantic comedy new releases were in short supply, so I chose The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I've been meaning to read the book, but a drama about affluent teens who are too introspective for their own good sounded like a lovely way to end the evening.

Even Clayton enjoyed the movie, so it ended up being a win-win situation. Emma Watson is delightful.

Then I got super sleepy, so I curled up in bed with my Kindle and passed out by 11.

It was a GREAT birthday. 28 is going to be great. Thank you for the well wishes! :)

  1. I think you mean "My Handbag & Sweater is Cuter Than Yours Digest". Anyone who shares a birthday with THREE stylish men obvs needs her own magazine. You were born to be in fashion. Your birthday day sounds just awesome.
