Blog Every Day in May: Day 8

I went home from work sick yesterday and slept for the better part of yesterday and today. This sore throat is relentless and it's knocked me down completely. I'm taking in lots of water, Vitamin C and praying that this passes quickly!

Day 8, Wednesday: A piece of advice you
have for others. Anything at all.

Oh, goodness! I'm like, the very LAST person you'd ever want to take advice from. I'm a terrible advice-giver because I never follow my own suggestions, and I'm pretty sure that's the definition of a true hypocrite.

Don't be a hypocrite. That's my advice. Ha ha

Actually, if I could offer up one piece of advice that I sometimes stupidly fail at doing myself but would still like to pass along to others anyway, it would be this:

The first time I read these words (I think I saw it on Facebook or Pinterest or a bumper sticker), I totally had one of those major "Ah-ha!" moments. Over the past few years, particularly the past few months, I've been engaged in an internal battle of feeling satisfied with where I'm at and what I have.

Remember my lecture about not comparing yourself to other people in the Day 4 challenge? Yeah, that's some major advice I fail to take time and time again. It's something I have to consciously remind myself of on a daily basis and definitely one of those instances where I need to "fake it til' I make it". If I keep telling myself to stop obsessing over what other people are doing, eventually I'll be able to retrain my thought patterns.

One of the most sobering ways I've dealt with my incessant need for comparison has been the above quote. Talk about a wake-up call! Okay, so I don't have as much as so-and-so. Should I let that totally negate everything I DO have? NO WAY!

I have enough in my life. I have more than enough in my life. I want to never take advantage of the blessings I have or lose in them in the superficial quest for "more". I want to have a thankful heart always, every day.

So my advice to you is this: You want to feel better about your life? You want to be genuinely, truly happy? Wake up every morning and make a list everything you're thankful for. I can promise you, it's going to be a long list and you will be blown away by the blessings in your life. Never take that for granite. Make a thankful heart you goal and I promise you, it will always be enough!

  1. Great quote, I love it. It's so true too! Hope you are feeling better soon x
