Blog Every Day in May: Day 5

Bahhh! I fell snuggled up to my hubby and my Kindle Fire last night and didn't get around to Sunday's Blog Every Day challenge. Man, I couldn't even make it five days without skipping one! But I guess that means you lucky people get a big, fat DOUBLE posting today!


Day 5, Sunday: Publicly profess your love and devotion for one of your blogger friends. What makes them great? Why do you love them? If you don't have blogger friends, talk about a real-life friend or even a family member.

I have zero troubles finding a blogger that I love. The problem lies with trying to pick just ONE blogger to shower with accolades and admiration. 

For the longest time I followed nothing but health and wellness bloggers; particularly the type that seemed to be forever hanging out in the gym and taking pictures of their miniscule meals throughout the day. I constantly found myself wondering, "Do these women have jobs other than working out and taking pictures of their oatmeal?" It left me feeling insecure and lacking, like there was something wrong with me because I wasn't running 5 miles every morning, lunching with a girlfriend, hitting a hot yoga class, sweating at a Crossfit class, knitting a sweater and then preparing a 3-course meal for my husband. 

Reading about these women's abnormal lives was a huge trigger for some of my bad habits, especially for my struggle with exercise addiction.  These women never looked tired, their bodies were certainly not emaciated (they were beautiful!), and they seemed happy. Why shouldn't I try to be that way, too?

Ugh, cue the wake up call. Reading these blogs was NOT good for my own health so I did the only thing I knew to stop the never-ending cycle of comparisons and self-loathingI stopped reading those blogs. Sounds simple right? Well, it was!

In one fell swoop, I removed no fewer than 15 blogs from my RSS reader and spent several weeks filling the holes in my daily reading ritual with blogs from some amazing women who inspire me not to keep sweating and counting calories, but to keep growing as a person. I was become attracted to blogs that celebrated beauty and femininity without focusing so much on the physical body.


One of my new favorite bloggers is Kate from The Small Things Blog. I actually found Kate via Pinterest because several people have pinned pictures of her amazing hair styles and easy tutorials. I was initially drawn to her blog for hair tips, but I lingered much longer when I realized that Kate was about SO MUCH more!

Her blog is a little bit fashion, a little bit beauty and a whole lot of heart. Kate is a professed Christian and her passion for life and her husband is obvious and alluring. Every time I read one of Kate's post, I feel like we just had a conversation over coffee. 

And her hair? Amazing! As much as I love Kate, I admittedly have some major hair envy!
