2012 Holiday Recap

Hello! Hello!

First of all, did everyone have a wonderful Christmas? I really hope so! I am happy to report that despite having to travel on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, I had a wonderful holiday with both sides of my family. Clayton suggested that we should pop out a baby by December 2013 so we don't have to drive anywhere next Christmas, but we ultimately decided that my getting knocked up and fat just to save gas money isn't the most ideal way to bring a child into the world ...

My mom continuing our life-long tradition of reading The Littlest Angel on Christmas Eve.

And, just like the Christmases of yore, I was majorly spoiled this year. My mom pulled off the greatest Christmas surprise in the history of Christmas surprises and revealed that she is taking my sister, Clayton and I to FLORIDA this March! A Florida vacation? YES, PLEASE! She rented us an amazing villa in Orlando for almost an entire week and is taking care of our travel expenses. I basically just need to bring beer money and a bikini. Can you believe that? I still can't!

I'm going to fondly remember Christmas of 2012 as the Christmas of a Thousand Kitchen appliances. Everything Clayton put under the tree for me was a kitchen gadget (plus a new Atlanta Braves hat!) that I had been pining over, and his parents graciously presented me with a gift card to a kitchen store in the mall. I seriously have to rearrange my pantry and cupboards to make room for my new toys! I can't wait to try out my new immersion blender; I hear it's life-changing! And my new frosting kit? Hello, pretty cupcakes!

One of my favorite gifts this year was from my sister, Ashley. I don't know how long it took her or what pains she went through to steal my camera's memory card and then have it put back into my camera without my knowing, but my super cratfy sister somehow managed to print every picture I've ever taken at every one of my races and made me a running a scrapbook! I was so, so incredibly surprised ... and touched. It clearly took a lot of work and the end result is amazing! The scrapbook has every one of my races, in order, complete with my finishing times. It means so much to me and finally made me feel totally unashamed that I insist on dragging my camera to all of my races. :)

I will be sure to post some pics of the scrapbook tomorrow! For some reason I can't get any more pictures to be sent from my phone to my email. Grrrrr!
And it's totally worth mentioning that my bro and sis-in-law surprised me with the New Balance LED running hat I had pinned on Pinterest earlier this fall. It's a reflective hat that has small LED lights on the bill so I can run safely at night. I was so excited to try it out that as soon as Clayton and I got home from all our Christmas gatherings, we shut off the lights so I could put on the hat and he could test out the headlamp he received from his parents.

It was a very illuminating experience ...

And after we flipped the lights back on and got settled in,
we found a very tuckered-out Joey snuggling with his Christmas baby.

Remember how I asked for snow this Christmas and we got a few pathetic flurries last week? Well, I TOTALLY GOT MY CHRISTMAS WISH TENFOLD ON ACTUAL CHRISTMAS NIGHT!

In fact, I might have gotten a little bit TOO much of my Christmas wish. According to the report I read last night, our county received a whopping 11.5 inches of snow! On December 26th we woke up to several feet of snow piled against our door and the city completely shut down in a state of emergency. Clayton was given a free vacation day (I already had the day off), and we snuggled under blankets while we watched all of Christopher Nolan's Batman movies and tried to avoid going outside at all costs. The kid in me considered going out to build a snowman, but the adult in me decided that sitting on the couch with leftover Christmas cookies sounded like a much better option.

I will admit, I totally played the snow skeptic and despite Clay's family excitedly chatting about the incoming blizzard at their Christmas party, I totally had my doubts. There have been countless times that the weather forecast promised us snow in the winter or really big thunderstorms in the spring, but storm systems have a mysterious way of magically diseapearing or breaking apart right as they reach our area (sometimes I suspect that there's a black hole right above our county and that's where weather systems go to die). It's really disappointing, so whenever I hear that "a big one" is coming our way I try not to get my hopes up.

When Clayton suggested we stop by a CVS pharmacy after the party to "stock up" on food for the blizzard, I scoffed and just rolled my eyes. I played along for his sake and helped pick out a few boxes of cereal and some milk, but in the back of my mind I was thinking, "Everyone is hyping this thing up way too much."

Well, now I'm totally eating my words .. especially after it took a solid 20 minutes to dig my car out from a snow drift this morning. We quite literally have more snow than we know what to do with. Case in point: Our apartment maintenance crew didn't know what to do with all the snow they plowed from the parking lot, so they just shoveled it behind all of cars and left a huge mess for us to deal with. There was seriously a 3-foot high wall of snow trapping my car in its parking space.

It's nuts!

Clayton graciously offered to drive me to work this morning and woke up extra early to make sure my car could be freed from its snowy igloo. After he dropped me off at the office, he went straight to Wal-Mart to buy a shovel so that he could help our neighbors unearth their vehicles as well.

Such a sweetheart!

At first Joey was majorly unsure what was going on.
He just saw snow piled against the patio door and didn't want to go through it!
(Also, please note my old lady humidifier.)

But once he's out there, Bizzles absolutely LOVES the snow!
Look at him darting around like a snow bunny!

Merry Christmas! :)

Before I sign off for the day, I wanted to announce the winner of the Printcopia 8x10 canvas portrait giveaway. Thank you to everyone who entered and thank you for sharing some of your wonderful Christmas traditions with me! Using a very scientific method (i.e. drawing names out of an owl mug), I am happy to report that we have winner!
